CHANUKAH AT SEA WITH RABBI DR ARTHUR SEGAL

 

The Blessings

Before lighting the Chanukah candles, we thank God for giving us this special mitzvah, and for the incredible Chanukah miracles:

Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be-mitz-vo-tav ve-tzi-va-nu le-had-lik ner shel Chan-u-kah.

Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech ha-olam she-a-sa ni-sim la-avo-te-nu ba-ya-mim ha-hem ba-z'man ha-zeh.

[Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah light.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time.]

On the first night of Chanukah we add the following blessing:

Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam she-hech-e-ya-nu ve-ki-yi-ma-nu ve-hig-i--a-nu laz-man ha-zeh.

[Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion.]

6. A Chanukah Winter Wonderland

 

In the kitchen, brisket's roasting,

Lox are thawed, bagels toasting.

On Hanukkah night,

Our clothes are too tight

'cause Bubbie's cooking up a feast for ten!

 

Put away, is each latke

applesauce, Grandpa's vodka.

On Hanukkah night,

We'll nosh 'til daylight,

'cause Bubbie's cookin' up a feast for ten!

 

 

Chorus:

On the stovetop kugel is a-coolin'

And each child gets some chocolate gelt.

We will stuff ourselves with noodle puddin'

And blintzes, knishes, and a herring melt!

 

Later on, we will suffer,

'cause we ate, too much supper,

We're bloated and ill,

From fried falafel,

'cause Bubbie's cookin, up a feast for ten!

7. Herman The Hanukkah Candle

  Herman the Hanukkah candle 

Had a very shiny light 

And if you ever saw it 

You would even say it was bright 

All of the other candles 

Used to laugh and call him names 

They never let poor Herman 

Join in any Hanukkah games 

Then one foggy Hanukkah eve 

The Rabbi came to say 

"Herman with your light so bright 

Won't you lead our service tonight?" 

Then all the candles loved him 

As they shouted out with glee 

Herman the Hanukkah candle 

You'll go down in history

On the fourth night of Hanukkah,

4 potato latkes 

3 pounds of corned beef 

2 Kosher pickles and 

Lox, bagels and some cream cheese 

On the fifth night of Hanukkah,

My true love gave to me 

5 bowls of chicken soup 

4 potato latkes 

3 pounds of corned beef 

2 Kosher pickles and 

Lox, bagels and some cream cheese 

On the sixth night of Hanukkah,

My true love gave to me 

6 pickled herrings 

5 bowls of chicken soup 

4 potato latkes 

3 pounds of corned beef 

2 Kosher pickles and 

Lox, bagels and some cream cheese 

On the seventh night of Hanukkah,

My true love gave to me 

7 noodle kugels 

6 pickled herrings 

5 bowls of chicken soup

On the eighth night of Hanukkah,

My true love gave to me 

8 Alka- Seltzer
